Ross Garrett Transport builds fleet for the future with Euro 6 Volvo FHs04 June 2014

Haulier Ross Garrett Transport has taken delivery of three Euro 6 Volvo 6x2 tractors, the first Volvo trucks to go into operation in the family-owned company for 20 years.

Supplied by dealer Truck and Bus Wales & West, the three high-spec vehicles are already achieving 8.1mpg on a mix of low loader plant haulage and platform trailer work, transporting concrete pipes for construction projects.

One is a 500bhp, Globetrotter XL-cabbed 6x2 mid-lift, which is used to transport concrete pipes.

The other two FHs are 6x2 tag-axle configuration, with Globetrotter cabs, 13-litre 540bhp engines, I-Shift automated gearboxes with Construction software and 9-tonne front-axles with steel wheels. Uprated front springs give additional ground clearance.

With annual mileage at around 110,000km, the FHs operate between Cornwall, London and the Midlands. The low-loaders often deliver in narrow lanes with steep hills, where the tag-axles assist with traction and manoeuvrability.

The Somerset-based haulier – now managed by Luke Garrett, the founder's son – has taken the vehicles on a three-year Volvo Gold R&M contract, which includes an uptime guarantee.
