Ryder boosts Hermes home delivery fleet with DAF trucks 14 March 2013

Home delivery courier network Hermes has boosted its nationwide delivery fleet with the addition of 87 trucks on contract hire from Ryder.

The new trucks comprise 14 DAF 4x2 tractor units and 73 DAF 18-tonne, 12-tonne and 7.5-tonne rigids, all fitted with aerodynamic DAF Aerobodies.

The fleet purchase now brings the number of Ryder contract hire vehicles in the Hermes fleet to 373 trucks and 118 trailers, operating from distribution hubs in Warrington and Nuneaton and 21 radial depots.

"The key to the success of our business is having an efficient, reliable and cost-effective transportation system," comments Rob Elmore, Hermes' fleet services manager.

"We handle more than 160 million collections and deliveries per annum via our network of 8,000 couriers and it is essential that this operation has the resources in place to meet the needs of our retail customers," he adds.

Hence Ryder, says Elmore. "We've outsourced to Ryder for both contract hire and rental vehicles, due to the quality and cost-effectiveness of the service it provides.

"Furthermore, the expansion of its vehicle fleet at the heavier end has definitely worked to our advantage."
