Safetykleen cleans up with Ryder fleet vehicles and services 03 January 2017

Washing equipment and waste services firm Safetykleen has begun taking deliveries of 120 new vehicles from Ryder.

As part of the deal, Ryder has also purchased 127 assets from Safetykleen’s former lease providers, and is now leasing them back, and covering fleet management and maintenance.

The first batch of replacement vehicles, including six DAF XF460FTG 6x2 tractors, was delivered last month, and full fleet replacement is scheduled for completion early this year.

All the DAF tractors were specified with Space Cabs, automated transmissions and Gardner Denver Hydropacks and Firescreens.

Andrew Homes, purchasing director of Safetykleen, says Ryder provided a flexible solution focused on reduced vehicle downtime, adding that the firm also offered a mobilisation period of just six weeks from signature to contract start.

In terms of vehicle uptime, Ryder reviewed suppliers’ locations and capabilities – including out-of-hours servicing, warranty repairs and breakdown support – and is now maintaining vehicles either overnight or at weekends nationwide.

“The tender and negotiation process with Ryder helped us to review exactly what service we required,” comments Homes.

“There was also added value in working with Ryder in that we were able to review our fleet specification and ensure it was fit for purpose,” he adds.

Safetykleen’s fleet ranges from DAF XF tractor units through to 18- and 15-tonne rigids, Iveco Daily 7.2 tonners and 3.5 tonne vans.
