Scania (GB) reports another good year over 16 tonnes01 March 2017

Scania (GB) has had a good year, according to managing director Claes Jacobsson (pictured), reporting on the company’s annual results at a press briefing. And he added that the new year will be about the move to the new generation trucks.

“The coming year won’t just be about chassis sales; we are talking to all our customers about connectivity, flexible maintenance programmes, and alternative fuel options,” stated Jacobsson.

All its effort will continue to be in the over 16 tonne sector, according to Andy Jamieson, Scania’s truck sales director in the UK.

“Our leadership of the UK market in eight wheelers, and in 6x2 tractors, helped to give us an overall 20% share of the market, with 7,283 registrations,” said Jamieson, referring to latest SMMT figures.

As for the global view, Matthias Carlbaum, Scania’s executive vice president for commercial operations said: “Overall, deliveries are 6% up on the previous year, but with a 14% increase in Europe.”

That picture has not however been mirrored everywhere. Carlbaum reported that the market for trucks in South America has fallen from 92,000 units, to under 30,000 in just two years, largely due to issues in Brazil.
