Scania wins heavy duty manufacturer LowCVP Champions Award 15 September 2016

Scania won the Heavy Duty Manufacturer of the Year trophy at the 2016 Low Carbon Champions Awards – the second year it has taken LowCVP’s top prize.

The Swedish truck OEM took the award for its dedicated gas-powered trucks and buses, which are now in service with several high profile operators in the UK.

“We were impressed with the commercial focus Scania has taken in delivering lower-carbon trucks and buses into real world operations while also developing innovative longer-term options for trials,” said the judges.

They also praised Scania’s commitment to the introduction of “sustainable biofuel options in the difficult-to-decarbonise heavy-duty vehicle market”.

“We are delighted to have once again been recognised for our work as we drive the shift towards a sustainable transport future,” comments Scania (GB) managing director Claes Jacobsson.

“Our dedicated gas-powered trucks and buses are capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90% when running on biogas, which represents a major contribution to the decarbonisation of heavy commercial vehicles.”

Operators running gas-powered Scania trucks now include Argos and the John Lewis Partnership. Reading Buses and Stagecoach are two bus operators utilising the technology in the UK.
