Karl-Heinz Neu, managing director of Schmitz Cargobull Telematics, explains that as cars become more customised, LD-JIS-based production enables carmakers to have precisely the right parts at the right time to enable production.
More than 300 trucks with trailers fitted with the firm’s telematics systems will be used in the project, he says, with Gatehouse’s ghTrack data technology of GateHouse Logistics giving Magna a single view of all parts in transit.
“This LD-JIS project with such key industry players as Magna and Gatehouse enables all three companies to bring unprecedented efficiencies to [this] important sector of business activity,” comments Neu.
“All industries today need more data transparency in the supply chain and the success of this LD-JIS project depends entirely upon Magna having total control and visibility over what parts are in transit and when they will arrive, adds Jesper Bennike, CEO of GateHouse Logistics.
The project is due to be fully operational by Spring 2017.
