Schmitz Cargobull axle production exceeds 400,000 05 April 2013

Eight years on from the launch of Schmitz Cargobull's own trailer axles – part of its ROTOS running gear – the company says that more than 400,000 have now been manufactured and built into its trailer production.

Schmitz Cargobull head of production Olaf Schütte believes the numbers speak volumes about the maintenance and uptime benefits of the firm's trailer running gear.

He also points to the axles' reputation for perfect tracking and suspension comfort, combined with the safety features offered by its driving stability and braking programmes.

"Every wheel bearing, brake disc, brake calliper, pneumatic suspension and shock absorber we use is sourced from world-class manufacturers," states Schütte.

"As the uptime of trailers is strongly dependent on the running gear, our manufacturing process undergoes constant, strict quality auditing," he adds.

ROTOS running gear is manufactured at the firm's Altenberge, Germany, factory, which also builds curtainsider and platform semi-trailers.

Schmitz Cargobull next expects its self-steering axle – unveiled at the IAA Show in September 2012 – to start ramping up as operators warm to the benefits of reduced tyre wear and fuel consumption claimed to derive from the guided axle variant.
