Schmitz Cargobull reintroduces container semi-trailer chassis28 January 2019

Schmitz Cargobull has announced that it is reintroducing container semi-trailer chassis, using three S.CF range standard container chassis developed in partnership with Turkish manufacturer Koluman Otomotiv Endüstri.

“Container chassis are a key component of the solution in combined road and rail transport,” says Andreas Schmitz, chair of Schmitz Cargobull. “This is precisely why we are once again bringing back the S.CF container chassis semi-trailer into our range.”

The company points to the fact that containers are playing a growing part in global transport with, for example, 98% of all packaged goods arriving or leaving Hamburg, Germany’s largest sea port, by container.

Demand for container chassis took a hit after the economic crash of 2008/09, and Schmitz Cargobull ceased production due to overcapacity in the market. “Demand has now recovered. We are seeing an annual market volume of between 9,000 and 12,000 vehicles per year,” says sales director Boris Billich.

Three vehicles will be offered from the S.CF Range: the Gooseneck 45‘ Euro Light; the Gooseneck 45‘ Euro; and the Gooseneck 40‘ LX.

Target markets are Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia, but the vehicles will be available everywhere, says the company.

Production is expected to be 1,000 units per year by 2021.
