Schmitz debuts at Tip-Ex 2013 with new sliding floor and tipper trailers 31 May 2013

Schmitz Cargobull is appearing for the first time at Tip-Ex, Harrogate, today (31 May 2013) and launching its first sliding-floor trailers alongside newly introduced German tipper trailers.

The SW24 SLG sliding-floor trailer and the SK.I 24 3AT 9.6 tipper trailer are both produced at Schmitz's Gotha plant, in Germany, which manufactures up to 20,000 trailers per annum.

Paul Stadler, product manager at Schmitz Cargobull's Gotha plant, says that while the company is already well established in the UK for curtainsiders, reefers and box van trailers, it is now looking to bring its European expertise into the tipper and sliding floor markets.

The tri-axle sliding-floor trailer, which has a cargo space of 92m3, comes with 21 hydraulic sliding elements, for moving bulk or packaged goods, and a roll-up tarpaulin roof. Schmitz is aiming it at the waste, agricultural, wood and recycling industries, where unloading bulk goods in controlled amounts, without tipping, matters.

The smi-trailer on show has an 8mm floor and a roof equipped with extra strong cross braces, with screwed storage. The body also meets DIN EN 12642 Code XL certification for load security.

As for the tri-axle tipper trailer, this comes with what Schmitz Cargobull describes as a weight-optimised, rounded steel, half-pipe body, designed for short-distance transport and frequent tipping. The vehicle has a 6mm floor and 5mm sidewalls for heavy-duty operations.

This trailer's specification also includes a top-hung tailgate and a sliding roller tarpaulin cover to prevent loads from being blown away and to improve aerodynamic efficiency. Other points include a heavy-duty steel frame, an aluminium working platform and a lift axle.

Both carry European Whole Vehicle Type Approval and both come with the firm's ROTOS running gear with maintenance-free bearings, an sophisticated ventilation system for the discs, weight-reduced callipers, and multi-ride-height pneumatic suspension.
