Shell and Dutch supermarket chain ring the changes with LNG station16 October 2015

Shell has opened its fourth LNG truck refuelling station in the Netherlands, the result of a collaboration with Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn.

The station is located in Pijnacker and is being used by delivery trucks that supply products to Albert Heijn.

With a capacity of 70,000 litre of LNG, the facility can refuel 200 trucks per day and, since opening, more than 650 Albert Heijn vehicles have used the facility.

Suppliers to the retailer can use the euroShell card for their fuel transactions.

“Albert Heijn is excited to be working with Shell on establishing LNG as a fuel for heavy-duty road transport in the Netherlands,” says Cees van Vliet, Albert Heijn’s director for shops and distribution.

“Our strategy is to reduce the hindrance of our operations to people living next to our supermarkets, where noise level is a very important factor. With LNG trucks, we can also deliver our goods at night when there is less traffic, improving road safety around our shops.”
