Shell opens first LNG truck refuelling station in Europe19 March 2015

Shell has opened its first LNG (liquefied natural gas) lanes in Europe, at a truck refuelling station in Rotterdam.

The new station – located close to a busy truck route – holds 70,000 litres of LNG, which is enough to fuel 170 trucks per day.

Shell is planning to open further LNG sites in the Netherlands to meet growing demand. A new break-bulk LNG terminal at the port of Rotterdam is under construction and, when complete, will be used to supply the fuel.

Lauran Wetemans, Shell's general manager downstream LNG, says: "We expect LNG will form a bigger part of the sustainable transport fuel mix in the future and we continue to collaborate with engine manufacturers, customers and policymakers to encourage the use of LNG as a transport fuel."
