Shirley’s Transport rates Bridgestone support22 July 2016

Shirley’s Transport is reporting fewer breakdowns and less vehicle downtime with Bridgestone tyres and says the manufacturer’s support, through its Bridgestone Partner network, is “massively important”.

The Stoke-based operator asked Bridgestone to switch tyres on some of its new Iveco Stralis trucks from another brand to provide some analysis on mileage achieved – and says the results of this proved the value of the Bridgestone brand.

Arthur Shirley, owner of the Stoke-based operator, says: “We did purchase a new truck which wasn’t fitted with Bridgestone tyres recently. It did 20,000km less than we would expect and while other factors can come into play, such as driving style and weather conditions, you can’t ignore the facts.

“If this was carried over our entire fleet, then that is a lot of money. Bridgestone’s research on our new trucks also backs this up.”

Shirley’s Transport uses nearby Lodge Tyres, part of the Bridgestone Partner network, to supports its fleet of 60 trucks and 110 trailers.

“The relationship we have with Richard [Kelter] at Bridgestone and Lodge Tyres means they can be at my business almost immediately to check a single tyre on a specific vehicle if necessary. That goes a long way,” says Shirley, pictured with Kelter, Bridgestone’s head field engineer.

“Another significant reason for choosing Bridgestone is that, overall, we have fewer breakdowns and less time lost on the roads by opting for Bridgestone’s products.

“But just as important is having good relationships that you can rely on. Bridgestone almost knows my company as well as I do. Lodge Tyres are similarly well placed and because of this, I can enjoy a strengthened service based on trust.”
