Simarco maximises uptime with intensive care from Volvo dealer29 May 2015

Freight business Simarco says it is boosting productivity and reducing carbon emissions by maximising utilisation of its 66-strong fleet – supported by local Volvo dealer MC Truck & Bus, of Witham, Essex.

Craig Rowley, fleet manager for Simarco – also based in Witham – says the dealer's proximity is "like having our own workshop on site".

However, it's also the R&M service, he adds, that ensures the fleet can be run intensively.

Two-thirds of the vehicles are Volvo: 12 FH artics are in use 24/7, covering 250,000km a year on full-load national trunking overnight and multi-drop pallet work during the day.

Eight new FE rigids do 100,000km a year, with four on national deliveries and four on local duty.

The dealer's rental division has prevented failed deliveries, adds Rowley.

"We have never dropped a load, as they have always been able to quickly source a replacement truck in the event of unscheduled downtime," he says.

"What's more, we have always had a good response from Volvo Action Service whenever we have needed breakdown assistance," he adds.
