Simon Gibson Transport adds small mid-lift FH tractors 22 May 2015

Bulk powder haulage specialist Simon Gibson Transport has taken delivery of three more Volvo FH 6x2 tractor units – all Globetrotter-cabbed with the D13K500 500bhp engine mated to Volvo’s I-Shift automated gearbox, with the Drive+ fuel-saving package.

Each has also been specified with a small mid-lift axle, rated at 4,500kg, to reduce unladen weight – in much the same way as the company's DAF XF, which joined the fleet back in 2012.

The Goole, East Yorkshire-based European haulier, which is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, now operates an 84-strong truck fleet, which includes 60 Volvos, plus 100 bulk powder tanker trailers.

Owner Simon Gibson says the tanker trailers are mostly Feldbinders, 12 of which have joined the fleet this year as part of ongoing investment in the business.

"We are doing regular, weekly European work and have tankers out, based with customers, as well as tanks dedicated to the variety of products we carry," explains Gibson.

"We really like the latest Volvo FHs. They are reliable and the build quality is superb," he continues, adding that fuel economy is very good.

The trucks, which were supplied by Crossroads Truck and Bus, at Hull, are on Volvo Gold R&M contract with 'Uptime Assurance', with Crossroads providing maintaining at its Hull workshop.

The fleet's average mileage is between 160,000 and 250,000 kms for double-shifted vehicles.
