Sir Geoff Hurst kicks off MAN limited edition 66 plate tractors 08 June 2016

Sir Geoff Hurst, of 1966 World Cup fame, has been signed by MAN Truck & Bus UK to launch its limited edition 66 registration plate MAN TGX tractor unit.

With the September registration prefix change and 2016 marking the 50th anniversary of England winning the football World Cup, German-owned MAN says that Sir Geoff was the obvious choice.

“It’s a real honour to be working with Sir Geoff on this initiative,” says MAN UK managing director Simon Elliott, explaining that the company is offering UK customers the chance to buy just one of 66 limited edition trucks.

“Our entire business, both here in the UK and in Germany has total respect for him as a player and a footballing ambassador, and we just couldn’t miss the chance.”

On the eve of Euro 2016, Sir Geoff visited MAN’s UK headquarters in Swindon yesterday (7 June 2016) to inspect the new trucks and kick off the initiative.

The tractor units are available in XLX or XXL specification, and feature a special door badge, personalised 66 TGX registration plate and 66 logo dashboard mat – and every truck comes with a framed replica England football shirt from 1966, signed by Sir Geoff.

“This is a fantastic initiative and shows that even though our win was 50 years ago, it is still being celebrated today,” comments Sir Geoff.

“It was good to chat trucks and football and, it was agreed by most that now is the time for England to bring home more silverware.”

All customers who purchase one of the trucks will meet Sir Geoff at a special handover ceremony to be held at Wembley in September.

Sir Geoff famously scored a hat-trick in the historic final, leading England to a 4-2 victory.
