Smarter workshop management pays dividends for transport operator20 June 2014

Tyson H Burridge is reporting improved workshop performance and efficiency, following its implementation of the r2c Online workshop management system.

The Distington, Cumbria-based haulier is using the module to manage compliance and administration at its facility, where it maintains 36 tractors and 90 trailers, as well as carrying out repairs for third parties.

"We wanted to streamline the paperwork between the workshop and service department," explains Burridge's director Neil Robinson.

"About 70% of the work that goes through the workshop is for third parties, so we wanted something that would improve productivity and efficiency, while also creating tangible benefits we could pass on to our customers."

The team of nine technicians now completes inspections using a touchscreen computer. The r2c Online inspection sheet includes all legally required service items; others can be added as required.

When the work is signed off by a shift foreman, the inspection sheet is uploaded to the system. Customers receive an email notification and can then log in to view the completed inspection sheet.

This functionality, in particular, convinced Robinson that r2c Online was the right choice: "We wanted to speed up paperwork, ensure the highest quality controls and keep customers updated on the progress of their jobs in a smarter way."

He adds: We are already seeing an improvement in administration efficiencies throughout our compliance process – from reducing the need to provide inspection reminders, through to our technicians who are completing inspections quicker than they were with the paper system.

"The system has completely removed the need to file hard copy inspection sheets which has massively reduced administration time and printing costs."
