Solstor is tickled pink with Euro 6 Mercedes Actros20 November 2014

Temperature-controlled distribution business Solstor UK has taken delivery of its first Euro 6 truck, a Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545 BigSpace tractor units.

Supplied by dealer Sparshatts of Kent, the Crayford-based operator's latest addition – dubbed The Pink Lady – is based at its Peterborough depot.

The idea came when driver Julie Church asked if she could have a pink shirt as part of her uniform. The company contacted breast cancer charity the Pink Ribbon Foundation and signed a 12-month contract to promote the cause with the special liveried vehicle.

The truck will raise awareness as it clocks up more than 100,000 miles during the year, and it will be showcased at Truckfests and other events.

Solstor took delivery of 19 Euro 5 Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units at the end of 2013, which, according to UK business director Andy Hitchings, soon took top position in the fleet for fuel efficiency.

"We also tried a Euro 6 demonstrator before commissioning the new truck and that recorded 11 mpg, so there's every reason to hope it will perform just as well, if not even better," he adds.
