Southwark Council wins award for its dual fuel fleet19 October 2010

A fleet of 150 Citroën dual fuel Berlingo and Dispatch vans have helped London's Southwark Council to the title of Public Sector Fleet of the Year at the 2010 GreenFleet awards.

The vans, which make up close to 50 percent of the total council vehicle fleet, can run on petrol and LPG and are set to feature more prominently in the future, as the council battles the costs incurred from the city's congestion charge.

As well as delivering cost savings in the region of £170,000, Matthew Trott, business unit manager at Southwark Council reveals there are further incentives of running the cleaner fleet: "Our new Citroëns are also delivering fuel cost efficiencies of around 25 percent over our previous diesel-powered LCV vans. In addition, the council is benefiting from other savings thanks to its policy of downsizing from its previous larger vehicles to smaller, more efficient Dispatch and Berlingo vans."
