Sprinters provide tasty treat for Shaw & Lisle30 July 2010

Sandwich and salad maker Shaw & Lisle says it has found the perfect ingredient in the shape of a fleet of new Mercedes-Benz Sprinters.

The Huddersfield-based firm initially bought four Sprinters to run alongside its existing fleet, as a trial comparison.

"The difference between the Sprinters and our last vans is remarkable – they're just so much better engineered, stronger and more reliable. Nothing ever goes wrong," says director Richard Lisle. "So it didn't take us very long to decide to replace the entire fleet," he adds.

Supplied by Bradford dealer Northside Truck & Van, the new fleet comprises 11 Sprinter 311CDIs and seven 313CDIs, all with Long bodies. Their temperature-controlled cargo areas have been insulated and equipped by Coolfreeze UK, of Manchester, which also fitted the GAH refrigeration units.

All 18 are the subject of a three-year contract hire package from Mercedes-Benz CharterWay.

"Our vehicles cover some high mileages, typically 50,000 a year, so they need to able to stand up to that, and the Sprinters take it in their stride. They're also very smart, helping us to create a professional image, and provide our drivers with a safe, comfortable and user-friendly working environment," comments Lisle.
