Stagecoach Inverness trials Optare’s Metrocity EV15 January 2018

Bus operator Stagecoach Inverness has been trialling a Metrocity EV over the festive period and has been “extremely impressed” with the vehicle’s range and performance.

The operator already operates six Optare Solo EVs – the first with fully electric heating, branded Inverness ElectiCity have served routes in Inverness since June 2015 – but wanted to try a larger vehicle.

Russell Henderson, engineering director, Stagecoach Highlands and Islands, says: “Following the success of the Optare Solo EV fleet in Inverrness we were keen to trial the larger extended range Metrocity EV, with its greater passenger capacity and put it through its paces in winter conditions.

“We have been extremely impressed with the Metrocity EVs range and performance during the trial and all our drivers have enjoyed driving it.The feedback from passengers has also been very positive, with many commenting how quiet, comfortable and smooth the vehicle is.”

Optare’s development of next-generation vehicles includes higher density batteries and advanced integral lightweight construction for improved range, reduced power consumption and lower cost of ownership.
