Storafile documents advantages of new Mercedes Vito18 June 2015

Document management and storage business Storofile has taken delivery of a new Euro 6 Vito van from Mercedes-Benz.

Supplied by Pentagon Commercials, the Wimborne-based firm's latest addition is a New Vito 119 BlueTec long crew van, which seats a driver and up to four colleagues in addition to the cargo area.

The vehicle features a 2.1-litre, 190bhp engine and runs at up to 47.1 mpg thanks to its alternator management, improved underbody aerodynamics and the ECO start/stop function.

The Vito's Euro 6 engine is paired with a standard-fit 7G-Tronic Plus transmission, the world's first automatic gearbox for vans with a torque converter and seven gears. Storofile's van is rear-wheel drive but customers can also choose a front-wheel drive version.

The company specified the Vito at 3.2 tonnes gvw (standard spec is 3.05 tonnes) and with a 70-litre fuel tank instead of the regular 57-litre version. It is working alongside a 3.5-tonne Sprinter, acquired in 2012.

"Paper is very heavy and our archive boxes typically weigh between 10 and 20kg apiece. The Sprinter will carry up to 150 at a time on three pallets but the New Vito gives us a lot of extra flexibility," says Jim Sutcliffe, Storafile's managing director.

"With the seats in place, we can use the van to transport up to six members of staff to a customer's premises. However, if we remove the rear seats – which is an easy job – there's enough room to carry up to 100 boxes, provided we don't exceed the very competitive 1.2-tonne payload capacity."

The vehicle will be maintained by Pentagon under a Mercedes Complete Care service contract.
