Take control of tyre pressures, says WheelRight11 November 2014

Bus and coach operators are being urged to monitor tyre pressures themselves, to cut costs and improve passenger safety.

Speaking at last week's Euro Bus Expo event, John Catling (pictured), chief executive of WheelRight, said operators should move to daily checks, rather than following the industry standard frequency of four to six weeks

Fleets often outsource tyre pressure monitoring to third parties, he said, in pence-per-kilometre (PPK) contracts – but with WheelRight's drive-over system, this activity can be performed in house every day.

The drive-over monitoring system, said Catling, is "a credible alternative" to PPK contracts and can save operators £340 per vehicle per year.

"The importance of regular tyre pressure monitoring has long been recognised ... but the mechanisms that surround manual checking are a recurring problem.

"We believe that the implementation of WheelRight's remote monitoring solution will offer operators a simple, practical solution to the age-old problem of reliable tyre checking," he added.
