Tayside Fire and Rescue sticks with Sprinters 11 October 2011

Tayside Fire & Rescue is returning to Mercedes-Benz Sprinters, having experienced downtime with a series of mobile service vans from another unnamed manufacturer.

The brigade's latest Sprinter is kitted out as a mobile workshop and used to maintain its frontline fire and rescue appliances.

Supplied by Dundee dealer John R Weir Truck & Van, the 319CDI Long is powered by a top of the range 190bhp V6 engine.

"On average, our previous vans were off the road 20—25% of the time," fleet manager Scott Roberts recalls. "We therefore conducted an extensive evaluation before deciding to purchase a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter."

And he continues: "In the three years we ran [the first Sprinter] it never had a single unscheduled day off the road, which means we effectively slashed our downtime to zero per cent overnight."
