TECMA 2012 sees Axor 2533L with Allison auto transmission 28 June 2012

Allison Transmission displayed a Mercedes-Benz Axor 2533L truck chassis equipped with its 3200 automatic transmission at TECMA, the International Town Planning and Environment Exhibition, earlier this month in Spain.

It was the first public showing of the vehicle with the Allison transmission release, and the auto-equipped vehicle shown, with its 240kW engine variant, is being aimed at the municipal services sector.

"Nowadays, the refuse collection and other municipal services sectors are more and more demanding," states Trond Johansen, Allison Transmission's market development manager in Spain.

"They require high performance, and the most reliable and robust vehicles to operate economically and efficiently over long working days and under intensive driving – including continuous stops and starts on urban routes and difficult terrain, such as that encountered in landfill sites," he explains.

Johansen makes the point that Allison automatic transmissions include a torque converter that protects the drivetrain, which, he claims, contributes to reduced fleet operating costs.

Furthermore, full power shifts and torque multiplication ensure good performance and ease of operation, resulting in higher productivity.

"In response to Spanish market demand, truck manufacturers such as Mercedes are now extending the Allison option to vehicle models equipped with higher engine ratings," states Johansen.

And Laura Rodríguez, sales manager of Mercedes-Benz Spain, adds: "Here in Spain, municipalities are demanding Allison transmissions, because they enable operating costs to be reduced. Further, the absence of a clutch facilitates the work of drivers."

Elsewhere, another Axor fitted with an Allison transmission was also on display at the Geesinknorba stand.

Says Cees Solinger, Geesinknorba's sales manager for Spain: "It is the first Axor 2533L with a side-loading body fitted with Allison. Several customers are already interested in this vehicle
