Telematics expansion delivers safety and fuel benefits for Praxair28 January 2014

Industrial gases business Praxair is expanding its MiX Telematics system across its European vehicle fleet, in a move aimed at boosting driver safety, but which is also delivering fuel savings.

Already implemented in Germany fleet, telematics is now being extended to Scandinavia, with plans to roll it out to the rest of Europe later this year.

Given the nature of loads being transported, fleet safety is of primary importance, so the system takes data from each vehicle, allowing Praxair to view day-to-day driver and trailer performance.

Trainers can then identify potential risk and provide advice or coaching. Real-time alerts are sent by email to managers, attaching all relevant information to comply with the company's safety regulations.

Praxair has now extended this with Mix's RIBAS (revving, idling, braking, acceleration and speeding) in-cab driving aid to help improve driving stylea and behaviour.

This has been backed up with a driver bonus scheme to reward safe and economical driving – and is, says the company, now delivering better fuel efficiency.

"To integrate safety and economical driving to reduce fuel cost and CO2 emissions is a fantastic approach in terms of corporate responsibility," says Joachim Walter, Praxair's supply chain manager for bulk and package gases in Germany.
