Tesco boosts home delivery cold chain reliability with Thermo King refrigeration30 March 2020

Tesco has taken expanded its home delivery fleet with 52 vans equipped with E-200 refrigeration units from Thermo King.

The retailer chose the units for their ability to ensure an unbroken cold chain during multiple daily trips. Protecting the cargo, even when the van’s ignition is switched off, was one of the key criteria met by the E-200.

The E-200’s hold-over capacity is enabled by the van’s auxiliary battery: this keeps the refrigeration unit operating, emission free, when the engine stops, eliminating any need for idle running. It means the vehicles can use active stop-start functionality to save fuel, lower noise and vehicle emissions.

As it is inverter driven, the unit can work with both electric and engine-powered vehicles. By varying the electricity flowing to the refrigeration unit, the inverter can provide more power when needed, resulting in a faster temperature pull-down during pre-cooling.
