Three-axle Doll bogie shows its mettle for Collett19 May 2015

Haulage business Collett has extended its specialist trailer fleet by adding a three-axle Doll bogie – said to be the first to enter the UK market for more than 10 years.

Made in Germany by Doll Fahrzeugbau, Collett's three-axle hydraulic steering bogie features a 55-degree steering angle and a combination carrying capacity of over 60 tonnes.

Collett has used bogie trailers since the 1980s for the delivery of concrete bridge beams and similar products, but the introduction of new steering trailer technology saw these bogies become largely redundant from the heavy haulage scene.

However, by upgrading to modern-day steering bogie equipment, says Collett, the trailer gives increased ground clearance, extra stability and high manoeuvrability.

The new trailer has already been used to transport 14 steel beams, each measuring 40 metres long and weighing 50 tonnes.
