Timber business falls for Euro 6 Mercedes Arocs19 February 2014

Timber business John Miller Transport has taken delivery of a Euro 6 Mercedes-Benz Arocs, fitted with specialist equipment to enable hauling and transporting of timber from forests to sawmills.

Supplied by dealer Ciceley Commercials, the Arocs 2545 Bigspace 6x4 rigid is fitted with a bespoke timber-carrying body by German specialist Doll, as well as a rear-mounted Loglift crane.

Drawbar couplings, from JD Engineering, allow the truck to work with a Dennison log trailer. It also has a central tyre inflation system which enables the driver to drop tyre pressures and minimise damage to forest trails, then re-inflate for normal road use.

The Arocs is powered by a 449bhp Euro 6 engine, with PowerShift 3 automated transmission.

John Miller Transport has a 75-strong fleet, mostly comprising Mercedes trucks on general haulage and tanker work. Its timber division has one other Mercedes vehicle, an 8x4 Actros 4144K off-road special which operates within the forests.

"The Arocs is our first Euro 6 vehicle but the technology is well proven so we have no concerns. Rather, we're confident that it will prove to be every bit as strong, reliable and cost effective to operate as our other Mercedes-Benz trucks," says Davie Carson, director of John Miller Transport.
