Tool hire company halves fleet risk with Lytx telematics28 January 2020

Tool and plant hire business Brandon Hire Station is reporting significant fleet safety improvements in its first year of using video telematics and analytics solutions from Lytx, with overall risk more than halved.

Other improvements noted by the DriveCam event recorder include: a reduction of almost 75% in following-distance events and a 46% drop in collisions.

As well as implementing its video and analytic capabilities, the Lytx Driver Safety Programme has provided the operator’s fleet managers with bespoke coaching information. The system uses video, motion and engine control module (ECM) sensors to present a view of risk, with greater than 95% accuracy across more than 60 risky driving behaviours, according to Lytx.

“One major factor in our decision was that Lytx reviews the 12-second clips captured and uploaded by the cameras, and only sends us what we need to see,” says Stuart Conway, fleet manager.

“Some of the other systems send you 15 hours of footage a day and we simply don’t have the capacity to go through all of that.”

Drivers have responded “brilliantly” to the introduction of Lytx, says Conway, adding: “I’d like to think the very strong results we’ve already achieved are only the beginning.”
