Top honours for MAN Truck and Bus apprentices25 August 2011

MAN Truck & Bus UK's Apprentice of the Year Awards saw 70 MAN apprentices gather at the WilliamsF1 HQ in Grove, Oxfordshire, with Alistair Peoples, CEO of VOSA, the guest of honour.

Now in their 16th year, MAN's Apprentice of the Year Awards recognise MAN Apprentices for their ongoing commitment to MAN and to their Truck Centres and Service Centres within the MAN Network.

This year, MAN presented four individual awards to each of three year groups.

Year 1 Apprentice of the Year, Parts was Darren Guild (MAN Truck & Bus Fife); Apprentice of the Year, Service was Scott Dalglish (Cordwallis Commercials, Heathrow); Most Improved Apprentice, Parts was Ryan Twomey (WG Davies, Cardiff); and Most Improved Apprentice, Service was Jonathan Grey (Norscot Truck & Van).

Year 2 Apprentice of the Year, Parts was Thomas Carroll (WG Davies, Cardiff); Apprentice of the Year, Service was Daniel Alberts (MAN Truck & Bus Manchester); Most Improved Apprentice, Parts was Thomas Amies (MAN Truck & Bus Northampton); and Most Improved Apprentice, Service was Mike Yorath (WG Davies, Cardiff).

Finallyl, Year 3 Apprentice of the Year, Parts was Luke Hawker (MAN Truck & Bus Nuneaton); Apprentice of the Year, Service was Daniel Gregory (MAN Truck & Bus Manchester); Most Improved Apprentice, Parts was Daniel Clarke (Beech's Garage, Stoke); and Most Improved Apprentice, Service was Chris Standage (Purfleet Commercials, Grays).

MAN Apprenticeships are managed in conjunction with S&B Training Academy, which has invested heavily in purpose-built, state-of-the-art commercial vehicle workshop and training facility in Bristol.

"Our apprentice scheme is one of the company's greatest success stories," comments MAN head of UK service John Davies, "and it's testament to MAN's growing reputation as a dynamic, technologically advanced engineering company."

"The next generation of technicians and aftersales support people are, of course, crucial to the future success of the company. It always fills me with great pride to see our young apprentices doing so well," he continues.

"The awards provide a stepping stone to a great career within our industry. I know I speak for the rest of the senior management team when I say this is one of the most important events staged by the company."
