Total Recycling specifies wall-to-wall Mercedes-Benz trucks 05 December 2011

Total Recycling's first new fleet of trucks is all from Mercedes-Benz – chosen for their reliability, fuel-efficiency and green credentials, according to general manager Paul Mitchell.

The Darlington-based hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling operator has taken delivery of: three 44-tonne Actros 2544 tractors, with flat-floored MegaSpace cabs; and a pair of 32-tonne Axor 3240Ks, with Multilift hook loaders, fitted by Northallerton firm Londonderry Garage.

All were supplied by North-East Mercedes-Benz dealer Bell Truck and Van, which also provided a 26-tonne Axor 2533, with 30ft curtainside body by CVC, of Blaydon, and DEL 1,500kg tuckaway tail lift.

The Axor eight-wheelers are now working with Total Recycling's collection of 120 large roll-on, roll-off skips. Trucks drop demountable skips at customers across the region, then take them to Total's site, where the contents are sorted and baled before forwarding to recycling plants.

The remaining vehicles spend most of their time assigned to a contract with one of Total's biggest customers, a major mailing house. They collect the company's waste paper, which is baled before being sent to pulping mills.

"I've worked with Mercedes-Benz, Bell Truck and Van and its sales executive Dave Maughan for many years, so I know that we will receive an exceptionally high level of service," states Mitchell.
