Trailer market to grow by 10% in 201415 November 2013

Trailer demand in Western European countries will see double-digit growth next year, as the economic climate improves and investment picks up. That's key among the findings in a forecast from consultancy Clear International, which looks at the demand for heavy goods trailers in Western Europe to 2017.

Since Clear's last report in May, the economic outlook for Western Europe has been downgraded again, albeit marginally, and the firm says investment levels in the seven largest economies will recover slowly. It predicts a solid recovery from 2014, both in terms of the economy and new trailer demand, with the overall trailer market growing by 10% or more and some Western European countries seeing growth of 15%.

New trailer demand is forecast to match 2006 levels by 2016, says Clear, though the report states it is unlikely that the demand level of 2007/8 will be seen again.

Trailer demand was down by 9.5% in the first half of 2013, but it will improve by 13.2% in the second half of this year.
