Trailer tyre inflation system launched by Jost19 August 2020

Jost has released a plug and play tyre inflation system that is said to be quick to install and maintain.

The system, said to be compatible with all common trailers and Jost DCA axles, maintains pressure to raise fuel efficiency, reduce maintenance time and increase safety.

Connected via the vehicle’s air supply through the control unit, an airline is fitted to each axle with air flowing through the axle beam. A pre-assembled stator and rotor is inserted through each wheel spindle, providing the auxiliary air supply. The air supply simply connects to the tyre valve with a secure connection maintained by a Jost hub cap.

The system is compatible with all common EBS (electronic braking system) control devices, meaning that no additional components or connections are required for installation on the axle. When the tyre inflation system is used on a semitrailer or trailer, the tyre pressure across all axles is automatically adjusted.

In operation, the system ensures that the tyre pressure is constantly at an optimal level. When the system detects decreasing air pressure, the tyre inflation system automatically refills the tyres to the desired level.

In the event of a significant pressure drop, such as a puncture, the system will alert the driver and allow them to pull over when it is safe to do so.

The driver is alerted by warning lamp, installed in a location visible from the side mirrors, such as the headboard or side of the trailer. No light displayed means correct pressure, while a flashing light signals that correct pressure is being maintained and that a report is required once the destination has been reached. A constant light signals the driver to stop when it is safe to do so. For practical use under varying conditions, the system allows for pressure drop due to temperature changes

The system can also be used with the Jost DCA Airmaster, the only trailer axle that stores compressed air for the air suspension and brakes in its housing, reducing the weight required for an air tank. The Jost tyre inflation system has a separate air circuit, which separates the auxiliary inflation system air supply from the Airmaster’s suspension and brake air supply.
