Translink renews deal with MiX Telematics03 December 2019

Northern Ireland bus operator Translink has renewed its fleet management contract with MiX Telematics for a further 12 months.

Originally taken out in 2012, the contract provides a bespoke range of connected services for Translink’s 1,449-strong fleet of passenger-carrying vehicles.

The solution includes MiX Fleet Manager, which captures vehicle data to provide advance warning of events such as engine overheat. The Fleet Manager solution is also integrated with Translink’s ticket machines for driver ID purposes, and includes a bridge height warning feature.

Driver performance is monitored using RIBAS, an in-cab driving aid with a dashboard-mounted display showing green, red and amber warning lights when predetermined driving style parameters are being met or exceeded.

David Curry, Translink’s general manager of bus operations, says the operator is planning to extend its use of the telematics technology by developing a link for real-time traffic information.
