Transport business picks DAF tractors for long-life solution17 March 2014

Container movement business Buckley Transport has taken delivery of two Euro 6 DAF CF FTG 6x2 tractors, which it will operate for up to eight years on its contracts with major shipping lines.

The trucks join the Manchester-based company's 44-strong fleet. The CF has an MX-13 engine, rated at 460bhp to give a power to weight ratio in excess of 10bhp/tonne at 44 tonnes. The 12.9-litre engine delivers up to 2,300 Nm from 1,000-1,425 rpm.

Supplied by dealer North West Trucks, the vehicles were specified with Space cabs to boost residual value, although the vehicles are used for day work only. Each will cover less than 100,000km a year, so will be in operation for several years.

A Jost sliding fifth wheel has been fitted to accommodate the variety of trailers in Buckley's 80-strong trailer fleet.

"I'm looking for the Euro 6 model to continue delivering the good fuel efficiency that we have long experienced with earlier DAFs in our fleet," says Garry Buckley, managing director.
