Transport buyers will pay more for better services – DHL report15 October 2018

Transport decision-makers say they will pay more for better services from logistics operators, as long as they provide a measurable return on investment, and 75% of companies believe investing in ground transport will directly support their business growth.

Those are among the key findings of a report from DHL, which commissioned a study to ask 200 decision-makers around the world what they want from their transport providers.

The resulting report, ‘The logistics transport evolution: the road ahead’, looks at the top five factors influencing the buying decisions of these respondents, and at their current and future transport strategies.

The findings show that sophisticated technology and service options are changing the way shippers and 3PLs manage their global transport flows. Technology is increasingly seen as a standard requirement of 3PLs: two thirds (67%) of companies believe that big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) are services that are essential for 3PLs to offer.

Variations are also identified by geographic region, with market maturity influencing the results. For example, in Latin America, the priority for selecting a transport provider is on-time delivery; in Europe, where the market is more mature, optimisation of networks is the key focus for shippers.
