Tripod Crest hits the road with Volvo FH tag-axle tractors24 October 2016

Tripod Crest has taken delivery of three Volvo FH-540 6x2 tag-axle tractor units, and says it is confident the vehicles will be “real winners” when it comes to transporting pavers, rollers and asphalt planing equipment, some of which weighs more than 38 tonnes.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the trucks are powered by the 13-litre Volvo D13K engine producing 540bhp and up to 2600Nm of torque delivered through the 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission.

Each has a Globetrotter cab and inside they have the Drive Plus cab package, featuring leather upholstery, arm-rests and air-suspension on the driver’s seat.

The 3.2-metre wheelbase tractors are fitted with twin-tyre tag-axles and are plated for STGO CAT 2 operation.

The tractors are paired to three new four-axle Faymonville Multimax low loader trailers, which at 13.3m in length are “millimetre perfect”, reports Tripod’s workshop manager Craig Baker, when it comes to transportation of the largest planers.

“When it came to renewing the vehicles we use for the movement of our road construction machinery, we were particularly impressed with the economy, reliability and capability of the new Volvo FH tractor units,” adds Baker.

What’s more, he says, the “customer-centric approach” of the dealer network also helped to clinch the deal.

All three vehicles are on Volvo Gold R&M contracts.
