Truck driver-focused sat-nav upgraded for Europe 02 January 2013

ALK Technologies has launched an updated European version of CoPilot Truck, the satellite navigation app for HGVs, trucks and vans.

The new version brings the latest truck-specific, turn-by-turn guidance and routing technology to a driver's iPhone, iPad or Android device.

Unlike standard in-car navigation apps, CoPilot Truck provides routes based on the size of vehicle and the load being delivered.

David Quin, head of consumer applications at ALK Technologies, says it automatically takes into account height and weight restrictions, such as low bridges and tunnels, as well as HGV-restricted and prohibited roads.

It also has a redesigned user interface with a clearer map display, and a new vehicle set-up wizard, making it easy for drivers to input vehicle and load dimensions, and then save them for future use.

Users can also take advantage of 'drag-and-drop' route editing, and alternate routes, with enhanced driver alerts – including warnings of truck-specific hazards ahead, such as sharp bends and steep inclines.

"CoPilot Truck provides a powerful, yet affordable sat nav that professional drivers can trust, running on their choice of smartphone or tablet," asserts Quin.

"Our latest version is the ideal in-cab companion to help professional drivers reduce their fuel costs, prevent wasted mileage and avoid trouble caused by taking inappropriate routes," he adds.
