Truck range extender Charge signs Formula E deal 30 November 2015

Novel range-extended electric powertrains designer Charge – which is developing its systems for buses and trucks – is to partner with Formula E, the all-electric car racing series.

Although focused on commercial vehicles, Charge will now provide support to Formula E’s race events, both the FIA Formula E Championship and the associated Roborace for autonomous cars.

Denis Sverdlov, founder of Kinetik (the money behind Charge), says Charge will be on hand throughout the Formula E season as the official electric truck partner – providing trucks and equipment for the pre-race drivers’ parade as well as for emergency vehicle recovery and visitor transportation.

“Formula E, and its associated Roborace ... is a celebration of the exciting developments that are transforming the automotive industry, and this partnership is another sign that Charge is at the forefront,” states Sverdlov.

“This championship will humanise the technological revolution by introducing an element of dynamic competition that can be shared with millions of people around the world. I am proud that Charge is helping make this a reality,” he adds.

Charge R&D is a new UK automotive and commercial transport engineering design business, with its own development teams, based at the hi-tech Whiteways Technical Centre in Oxfordshire.
