Trucks most affected in European CV registrations in January01 March 2010

New commercial vehicle registrations of January in the EU totalled 123,527 units, 12% fewer than those registered in January 2009.

It's the 21st consecutive decline in the monthly year-on-year figure, with heavy duty trucks posting the biggest fall, with a drop of 43.5%.

In the LCV sector, numbers were down 5.2% at 105,522 units, with the UK experiencing a 1.8% reverse on figures one year previously.

Registrations of commercial vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes gvw dropped 40% to 15,756. The fall in the UK was not only above average for the rest of Europe, at 48.8%, but also the biggest drop recorded for the continent.

On the positive side, the UK registered the most buses and coaches – 32.3% of the 2,249 units – but the market still suffered. Registrations were down 30.9%, compared with last year, Italy coming off best with only a 1.3% drop in the number of vehicles registered.
