Trump card for fuel purchases14 November 2013

UK transport operators have signed up to draw up to one million litres of diesel per month using the Scania Fuel Card.

The card was launched 12 months ago and, says Scania, works like a cooperative. By purchasing fuel through a single source, operators can boost their individual buying power.

The scheme is free to all for the first year. Benchmark prices, based on Platts, are notified by email or text and fixed for seven days, with no regional variations. Other benefits include online access to bespoke fuel reports, so operators can understand fuel purchasing patterns.

"With operators reporting savings in excess of 4% over pump prices, and with fuel typically accounting for 35% of operating costs, demand for the Scania Fuel Card was always going to be high," comments Harjinder Atwal, director of services development & service sales for Scania (GB). "For our part, we are delighted to be helping the industry to keep a lid on operating costs."
