Try before you buy – Euro 6 demonstrators from Ryder28 August 2014

Operators considering Euro 6 vehicles can now trial the technology thanks to Ryder, which has extended its rental fleet with 13 of the latest trucks and tractors.

The mixed marque additions – from DAF, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco – include two- and three-axle vehicles, with a range of power options and specification levels. They will be moved around Ryder's 28 locations so that as many customers as possible can test them.

"These Euro 6 demonstrators will enable customers to try the newer specification trucks for themselves, and better understand the operational and maintenance requirements associated with the new technology," says David Hunt, VP and managing director for Ryder Europe.

Every vehicle is fitted with Microlise telematics, to give real-time data on performance.

Hunt says the truck rental market has grown in recent years, with operators opting for long-term rental as a stepping stone to contract hire.

"Many are wary of the uncertainty that comes with purchasing new truck technology. Truck rental and contract hire provides the perfect solution for businesses that need to refresh their fleets, but do not want to take on the financial and operational risks," he adds.
