Two new bulk food powder tankers join Clugston fleet 15 October 2012

Clugston Distribution Services has taken delivery of two new Spitzer Eurovac bulk powder tankers costing £130,000.

The duo comprise: a food grade 60m3 tipping silo type, incorporating the latest generation tipping chassis technology and safety systems; and a 56m3 four-pot non-tipping tanker.

The non-tipping tanker was developed with the flour industry in mind, to overcome the problem of flour holding inside the tank, whilst the discharge system was designed for ease of cleaning.

David Heath, general manager at Clugston Distribution Services, explains that the firm has several customers whose discharge points are on a camber. That makes a traditional tipping trailer dangerous, and hence the non-tipping tank for safe discharge.

"At the start of the design process we wanted a safer, more cost effective, and operator friendly tanker for the distribution of flour," explains Heath. "We are now the first distribution company in the UK to be operating this type of tanker."

Clugston Distribution says it plans to invest in at least three further food-grade powder tankers next year, and is also looking at opening an additional operating centre in the North West to cater for growth in the bulk food market sector.
