UDG takes delivery of 28 high-spec Scania tractors 10 January 2013

Unidrug Distribution Group (a joint venture between Alloga (itself a subsidiary of Alliance Boots) and United Drug) has taken delivery of 28 Scania R445LA 6x2/4, three-axle tractor units from Keltruck.

The operator, which specialises in logistics for the UK healthcare market, distributing £3 billion worth of products throughout the UK every year, went for larger sleeper cabs, because of the volume of overnight distribution woirk.

The vehicles, which were supplied through contract hire company Charthire to UDG's specification, which took into account mileage, average laden weight and delivery times.

"UDG chose this model on the basis that we cover all UK deliveries from our base at South Normanton so our drivers are often on nights out, two to three a week," explains Mark Langton, director of operations at UDG.

He also cites driver preference for Scania trucks and the fact that the current vehicle at Euro 5 does not require Ad Blue – although that privilege will be gone by the end of the year, with the move up to Euro 6.

And Langton mentions after-care of the vehicles, aimed at minimising downtime – which is where the location and UDG's relationship with Keltruck and Charthire fell i their favour.

"UDG have received good service from Keltruck over the years, and this, coupled with their close proximity to the UDG depots, makes servicing and defect rectification easy to manage." confirms Langton.
