Unisurge stems the flow of fuel costs with Volvo FLs11 September 2015

Surgical supplies manufacturer Unisurge International has taken delivery of two Volvo FL 4x2 10-tonne gvw rigids – and says the new vehicles are already reaping a 33% fuel saving compared to two older FLs.

Supplied by dealer Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the Newmarket-based manufacturer’s two new additions are powered by Volvo D5K engines producing 210bhp and up to 800 Nm of torque. Both are equipped with the I-Sync automated six-speed gearbox.

Unisurge has operated Volvo rigids and tractors for 10 years and its two previous FL 12-tonners are 10 years old. “We’re saving about one third in fuel with these new FLs. That equates to something in the order of a £4,000 saving per truck per year,” says finance director Matthew Moon.

The trucks are delivering sterile surgical products to hospitals, primarily in London.

The FLs were specified with a Comfort cab, box bodies by Kurt Hobbs Coachworks, of Kettering, and are covered by a Volvo Gold R&M contract.
