Used Mercedes-Benz trucks work well for JRM 16 August 2011

Motor racing outfit JRM Group is singing the praises of its quartet of Mercedes-Benz Actros MegaSpace tractor units, which are now supporting its bid for glory in the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship.

The East Sussex-based team uses the trucks to transport its four racing Nissan GT-Rs, along with tyres, spares and equipment, and a hospitality rig.

JRM Group transport manager Carl Holden says the organisation is especially pleased with the vehicles, given that they had already clocked-up more than half a million kilometres when local dealer Rossetts Commercials delivered them to JRM's headquarters in Rye.

"We prefer to devote as much of our budget as possible to the development of our race cars, so ensuring that we're always competitive where it really matters – on the track," explains Holden.

"Although they travel to circuits throughout Europe, our trucks are not being used intensively and only cover about 10,000 miles a year. So why would we choose new vehicles, when Rossetts could supply top-quality used ones at a fraction of the price?" he asks.

All four of its tractor units are Actros 2546 models, powered by 460bhp Euro 4 engines.

Meanwhile, JRM wanted white vehicles with colour-coded bumpers and grilles – so that preparation work was done at Mercedes-Benz UK's Used Commercial Vehicle Preparation Centre at Wentworth Park, Barnsley.

All the trucks were supplied through the Mercedes-Benz Approved Used programme, having been returned to the manufacturer on completion of their 'first life' contract hire terms.
