Veolia cleans up with CNG-powered Daily vans08 January 2018

Waste management organisation Veolia has taken delivery of three IVECO Daily Natural Power vans for use on a new graffiti-removal contract for London Borough of Camden.

With emissions reduction a critical factor, says Andrew Hope, Veolia’s fleet development manager, the CNG-powered Daily was “our first choice when specifying the panel van”.

Supplied by dealer Northern Commercials, the Daily Natural Power’s purpose-built spark ignition engine is said to deliver performance comparable to a diesel in terms of power, torque and response. Running on compressed natural gas results in 12% fewer NOx emissions, 76% less particulate matter and up to 95% less CO2 emissions using bio-methane.

Powered by a 3.0-litre natural gas engine, the Daily Natural Power 35S14 delivers 134bhp and up to 350Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,730rpm. The engine requires no AdBlue, particulate filter or exhaust gas recirculation, and needs no after-treatment system maintenance. Together with fuel costs around 20% lower than diesel, says the manufacturer, this helps to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and boost fleet efficiency.

The vehicles are also around 50% quieter than their diesel equivalents; they will refuel from Veolia’s new CNG refuelling station situated at its Alperton depot which was built to service all the CNG vehicles in the Camden fleet.

Hope adds: “The

team at Northern Commercials were great to work with and IVECO built the

vehicles within the required time frame.”
