VMS invests £2m in new Isuzu refrigerated rental trucks22 August 2019

VMS Fleet Management is taking delivery of 37 Isuzu dual-compartment refrigerated 7.5-tonne rigids for its rental division, VMS Vehicle Hire, in a deal said to be worth over £2 million.

The new arrivals – part of a fleet expansion – are all N75.190 models with GAH refrigeration systems on a mix of Coolertech and Polar multi-temperature refrigerated bodies. All the vehicles are specified with tuckaway tail-lifts.

Each has a pallet-width nearside door for access to the frozen section, and the fridge body specification features a mix of double and triple rear-access doors.

VMS has a 5,000-strong fleet: 1,000 are in its rental division and 75% of these are refrigerated vehicles.

“For refrigerated rental operation at 7.5 tonnes, the Isuzus have excellent payload and are proven to be very reliable in operation,” says Martin James, managing director of VMS Fleet Management.

“The decision to further invest in the Isuzu marque within our rental fleet is based on our overall previous experience where we have found them to be robust and reliable operators,” he says, adding that strong nationwide dealer support was another factor in the decision.

Each truck is expected to cover 50,000km per annum and will be in operation for seven years, although VMS will review vehicle performance after five years.
