Volkswagen introduces most efficient Caddy BlueMotion 09 September 2013

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has boosted its Caddy range with a BlueMotion version claimed to be the most fuel efficient of its kind every built by the German manufacturer.

The new van retains the 1.6-litre common rail, direct injection diesel engine, which offers 100bhp and a maximum torque of 250Nm. Compared to the current model, fuel consumption has been reduced by 0.5 litres per 100km and now stands at 62.8 mpg.

Compared to other models in the Caddy range, that makes it 1.1 litres per 100km more economical. A 60-litre fuel tank in the Caddy BlueMotion provides a theoretical range of more than 1,300km (over 800 miles).

VW says the vehicle's low fuel consumption is made possible by a combination of aerodynamic and engineering measures – such as engine stop-start, low rolling resistance tyres, recovery of braking energy (battery regeneration), ride height lowered by 27mm and efficient engine control.
