Volkswagen launches performance upgrades for Amarok 07 November 2012

Volkswagen's Amarok pick-up has been subjected to an engine upgrade, with the 163bhp BiTDI engine boosted to 180bhp.

At the same time, to improve environmental and fuel efficiency, the manufacturer's BlueMotion technology has been added to models in the range.

BlueMotion technology includes low rolling resistance tyres, stop/start and regenerative braking.

Towing limits have increased from 2,800kg to 3,000kg for manual models, while a new eight-speed automatic transmission has been introduced with a towing limit of 3,200kg.

Although the 180bhp engine is over 10% more powerful than the previous model, because of the new technology, it is 3.9% more economical – with a combined fuel economy of 37.2 mpg, compared to 35.8 mpg.
